Motilal Nehru, Kashmiri Brahman, well known lawyer of Allahabad High Court had preferred his son Jawahar Lal Nehru to have law degree from London. Who returned to India after completing bar at law but did not join legal practice as desired by his father. But he got inspired from Mahatma Gandhi and joined freedom movement with others.
After enormous sacrifices by the freedom fighters , India became free in 1947. From the Britishers thereafter Jawahar lal Nehru has been unanimously elected first Prime Minister of India. After his death , Lal Bahudur Shastri later Nehru’s daughter who was married to Firoz Gandhi ( Parsi by caste) became the Prime Minister of India who given birth of two children namely as Rajeev Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi. Right from the period, the Gandhi era started and reign of power went to Mrs Indira Gandhi who usually opted Raebareli as her electoral constituency to run her political career. She remained Prime Minister of India for years togather. After her assassination by her security staff , her son Rajiv Gandhi won the parliamentary election with thumping majority who took oath as sixth Prime Minister of India and continued from 1984 to 1989. In succession of power, Gandhi’s regime done lot of for Raebareli developments and established rare industries/ institutions like Indo -Gulf fertilizer plant Jagdeeshpur, NTPC Unchahar, Indian Telephone Industry, Petroleum Institute near Jais, Rail coach factory lalganj, Uran academy Fursatganj, NIFT , Foot wear Institute, NIPER , Rayon International school, AIIMS and so on. These projects were rare of the nation which put Raebareli on the map but people of this area were expecting more from the high profile leadership . I personally understand the great importance of said projects and do not believe in cosmetic developments .The Gandhi’s leadership had broad way of thinking and took nation as a whole because of high statures who could not bifurcate between their own constituencies and the rest of India.Where as low profile leaderships were confined to their areas who apparently done better but while the local people compares the developments with other places like Safai, Mau feels themselves marginalized is reason of declining Gandhi’s popularity in their areas. But the congress leadership has done lot of for Raebareli developments whose contribution can’t be forgotten by the sincere inhabitants. The other major reason behind the downfall of entire political parties including congress is a divisive politics accepted by the majority voters throughout the country but we hope that party will return in power and will regain it’s secular credentials. But how much time it will take can’t be predicted.
